The House

The Old Bakery (or l’Ancienne Boulangerie) is situated next to the Grande Lay river, in a quiet valley on the outskirts of l’Haumandière, between Chantonnay and Pouzauges.

It was built between World Wars I and II and the ovens (which are still in place!) kept a large area of the Vendée fed and sustained during the period of occupation by the Germans.

The house is a two storey house and all of the accommodation is on the first floor, with the groud floor being made up of a large cellar and the old bakery ovens. The accomodation area of the house comprises:

  • One Twin Bedroom
  • One Double Bedroom with additional single bed
  • One Single Bedroom
  • Lounge
  • Dining Room
  • Kitchen
  • Bathroom

The Lounge has a large sofa-bed, for extra sleeping accommodation, should it be needed.

The Dining room has a large dining table that seats eight people with ease and a multimedia centre including TV, DVD and VHS players.

The Kitchen is fully fitted and has all of the usual modern appliances, large freezer, fridge, microwave and a gas stove (being such a rural location, mains gas is not provided, so the stove works from bottled gas.)

The Bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin as well as a washing machine.

Outside, there is a large patio area which is ideal for both eating and sunbathing.
